One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

It was a great day. And then I got a text message from my room mate Nick asking me to check the chore chart so I could get my chores done today, and to give him $30 for the laundry fees plus the late fees.

A number 1. I will do my chores on my own time schedule, and not when I am told. I may get to them this afternoon like I had planned, or I could get to them on Tuesday. We will see.

B number 2. It is not my fault that we have late fees because it is not my responsibility to make sure the bills get paid on time since the bill does not come to me.

The audacity, it never ends and it never ceases to amaze me.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

So I went back to Illinois for some fabulous fun. Spent my first night back in Illinois at Knox. Spent with friends at all favorite spots, like Duffy's, drinking Old Style and grilling on the TKE deck at 3 am. The usual.
Saturday I went to the wedding of two high school friends, Andy and Katie Madsen Dye. It was a great time! I really wish that I was back in the Midwest. California is just not as good to me.
On Sunday I was scheduled to leave from Peoria International Airport at 6:20 am. As I was getting ready to leave my parents at 3:30 am I listened to a voicemail from Adam Soto that I had received about two hours prior. As it turned out, our IDs got switched at Duffy's on Thursday. So instead of heading straight to Peoria my sister and I had to make the trek to Galesburg to get my ID. En route I got pulled over outside of Geneseo and without even giving it one thought one the officer asked for license and registration I gave him Adam's ID. I told the officer that we were on our way to the airport and had to stop in Galesburg. The officer said, "Well Mr. Soto the posted speed limit is 65 so keep it there." Thank God Adam and I have the same glasses and that I can pass for someone of Hispanic decent apparently.
So after all of this I ended missing my flight and got on the next available one which was this morning at 6:20 am. It was serendipity though because I got to seemy sister perform with her dance team which was neat.
I think I am headed into a long week. Or Spring. Or whatever. I guess being back in Illinois just gave me an insight into how much I do truly miss my friends and family. And how alone I am out here. I dunno. After being at school I tend to feel a little better so hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. So here we go. Moving on.

The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire

But as the laws of gravity state, what goes up, must come down.

On our drive home to Santa Rosa from Oakland on Sunday, Sam, Scotty, their friend Eric and I were in a three car accident on the ramp on I-580. Sam was driving my car and he did everything he could to avoid the accident. The car in front of us was changing lanes and decided to come back into our lane after fucking up which is what caused the accident. The front end of my car is once again completely smashed. It drove off of the interstate but it needs significant work. The airbags were deployed and fluid was dripping from the vehicle. No injuries. Just that California easy going attitue even in the face of a clusterfuck of a car accident. Well not all of us are sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows. Some of us are from the Midwest.

Here are the things weighing in on me in the aftermath. The last body shop had my car for almost a month. And it seems that there is more damage this time. I am currently staying at Sam and Scotty's for the week which is fine, but what happens when I have no way of getting home before next Tuesday. There is also the matter of insurance. Currently in their investigation our car is at fault. I am also on thin ice with the insurance since I caused an accident in September. The ice will then probably crack when I have to turn in the citation I received for not stopping at a stop sign on Friday. So I guess I will cross the I-may-no-longer-be-insured-with-Country-Insurance-anymore bridge when I arrive there.

So here we are. After such a victory this week I suffer a loss of epic proportions. I've mad a lot of mistakes, but what now?

The Return of the King

There's so much that has been going on. And it is going to take a lot to catch everyone up. Lets start with the room mate and then move onto Spring Break. Here we go.

On Wednesday by room mate Caitie asked via text if she could have a chat with Nick and I. After my night class I wasn't feeling up to it and had started to talk to some friends over the internet. Caitie and Nick proceeded to have the conversation without me. She however filled me in through text messages. IT was her feeling that since she does not have a full bedroom that she should pay $50 less in rent per month. She had become unhappy with the arrangement that she had wanted. Nick was the first to move in and I was the second to arrive. Since we were to have a female room mate Nick believed that the gentlemanly thing to do would be to let her have the bedroom. Which Nick informed me that I would be doing the gentlemanly thing and giving her the room. Well after a couple of days she decided that she would prefer to live in garage. So I let her have the garage and thus brought us to the original agreement that Nick and I had the bedrooms while Caitie occupied the garage and we three would split the rent three ways.

This reasons she felt that this arrangement had become unfair were as follows. When our boss Jillian had occupied the garage she paid $100 less in rent each month. She spent over $100 to fix the garage and it was still too cold to live in with a lizard and spider infestation. Another apartment splits the rent equally but has switched rooms. She believed that is was fair for her to pay less considering she also had no sound proofing. Her family and Nick agreed that this was fair and wanted to let me know of the new agreement before I dropped off the rent. She also said that she felt bad that I had not been there to negotiate but understood that I was busy. I did not respond to any of these text messages because I was having a panic attack.

The next morning I received the following message: "Morning brian. I tried to talk to u last night and didn't receive ANY response from u so i guess ur ok with the arrangement. My check is for 303. Droppin it off." To which I replied, "No Caitlyn I am not ok with that, pleasse b ready to discuss this with me face to face instead of via text." As I driving from my apartment to my school that morning I received the following texts: "I absolutely tried to. U refused. What is unfair to u? I think it is immature to use texts to. I have an potion to move into a cheaper ful room on campus and will take." "The rest is between u and nick. Shal I place a stop payment on my check and do that? It is spelled Caitlin btw." Herein I stop for a stoplight and am able to reply: "I'd b more than happy to talk face to face. Last nite was not good for me." To which Caitlin replies: "Sorry to hear that but we all have stuff to deal with. Doin that and handling obligations at the same time is what we all do." "This is why i was so persistent. So we ALL could talk. I am prepared to move next week if need be the room is open now. I expect to talk first thin." Her last text read: "Have a good day." This is the point where I decide to call her. I tell Caitlin that we have each signed a legal lease contract. We each have a 33% stake in the apt. Just because 66% decides to d one thing, does not mean that the last 33% must go along. I said that I was prepared to listen to all of her point and that she should be prepared to listen to mine. We agreed to speak later.

After talking to many people at school I decide to involve my boss Jillian. At this point any discussion that I would have with Caitie would be mean and petty. After talking to Jillian she said that she would be willing to be present at any meeting as an impartial third party. I sent Caitie two texts asking what time Jillian should come over. While I was doing my taxes with one of my teachers at school I got a call from Caitie. She said that she had worked out an arrangement with Nick wherein they would switch rooms and no change in rent would happen.

I won. I won! In that moment I finally felt good after so many months of abuse and disrespect from those two. I felt as though I got my fight back. In that moment I felt as if Stella had finally gotten her groove back, the Rebels had finally been the victors over the terrible Empire, and the King had finally returned. I finally felt a little bit like myself after so many months of taking their bullshit and biting my tongue in the name of what I thought was civility. No more. The King is back, and they finally learned that you don't mess with the big boys!

April Fools

The best April Fools I heard today:

"I'm pregnant. April Fools!" -Mauricio, 4th Grade

Oh also this little Filipino boy named Mark who is bananas crazy and is heavily medicated for ADHD was sitting at his computer in the lab today and said, "I'm a computer geek," in a very nasal tone and adding length to the ee in 'geek.' I died laughing. Usually I have to tell Mark to stop standing on chairs or to stop punching my stomach and saying that I am a dummy. But that was pretty funny.

All along the watchtower

Saw Watchmen last night. It was brilliant. I mean the glowing blue penis and hero sex by moonlight where a little much, but it was still good. The opening credits were really striking and the soundtrack was amazing. The use of Mozart's Requiem at the end was beautiful.

So its Wednesday. Which means I have class tonight. Boo. And I have a meeting for work today and am leaving school early. Which is a plus I suppose. Also I have two movies coming from Netflix. So that is a plus. Oh and I ordered some movies off of Amazon, which include, Slumdog Millionaire, Interview with the Vampire, and Cradle Will Rock. So that is exciting.

In other news, I am starving. My food stamps need to replenish. Immediately.
